GreedFall Studio Spiders Faces Shutdown After No Buyer

Spiders nearing shutdown

Spiders, the Paris studio behind GreedFall and Steelrising, is expected to be pushed into judicial liquidation this week after no buyer emerged.

Multiple people close to the case say the court filing is now a formality, with layoffs likely to follow quickly under French law.

No buyer stepped in

Spiders is one of several Nacon-linked entities pulled into insolvency proceedings after the French publisher declared it could no longer meet payments earlier this year.

The same court-appointed administrator has been handling the cases tied to Nacon, including Spiders, KT Racing, Cyanide, and Nacon Tech.

  • Nacon had hoped to sell Spiders and Nacon Tech
  • No offer was made for Spiders before the target window expired
  • The studio had around 70 employees before work effectively froze

Work stopped, farewell started

In recent days, staff have shifted from production work to CV updates and self-training, while employee representatives have been organizing hardware buybacks for workers who want them.

The studio also turned its usual weekly drink into a formal goodbye marking 18 years of Spiders.

GreedFall studio hit a wall

Founded in 2008, Spiders built a niche with mid-budget action RPGs including Mars War Logs, The Technomancer, GreedFall, and later Steelrising.

Nacon bought the studio in 2019 and made it part of its publishing push. More recently, Spiders was juggling two projects at once before one licensed game, codenamed Dark, was canceled last year.

After that, the team focused on GreedFall 2 and early work on a new pitch meant to secure the studio’s future.

Nacon declined to comment on Spiders’ future.
