Valve sets Steam Controller price at $99 ahead of May 4 release

Steam Controller pricing is set

Valve says its new Steam Controller will cost $99 in the U.S. and go on sale May 4, giving the company a clear price point for its major new hardware release.

The company has not said when orders will start shipping, so buyers still do not know how long the wait will be after purchase.

Regional prices jump around

Valve also confirmed pricing for several major markets, with regional costs shifting well above or below the U.S. number depending on local conditions.

  • Canada: $149 CAD
  • Europe: €99
  • UK: £85
  • Australia: $149 AUD
  • Poland: 419 PLN

Valve said the differences come from distribution costs, import duties, tariffs, and local market conditions.

Hardware push meets supply pressure

The launch comes after Valve warned earlier this year that component shortages were forcing it to reassess hardware pricing and shipping schedules, including for the controller.

It says it can ship the controller already since it is done, but the also announced Steambox will wait for later.

Built for mouse-style control

Valve is pitching the controller as a flexible option for both traditional gamepad play and PC-style input.

  • Magnetic thumbsticks
  • Grip-based gyro controls called Grip Sense
  • High-definition rumble
  • Built-in trackpads for mouse-like input
  • A Bluetooth Puck that works as a wireless transmitter and charging dock

The broader idea is customization. Valve says players will be able to remap and tailor controls through Steam Input, which could matter most for games that usually feel awkward on a standard pad.
