Call of Duty hits theaters in 2028
Activision has set the Call of Duty movie for June 30, 2028, putting one of gaming's biggest franchises on the release calendar as Hollywood keeps chasing video game hits.
The film was announced at CinemaCon, with Taylor Sheridan attached to write and Pete Berg set to direct. Activision boss and producer Rob Kostich said the team only moved ahead once it found the right partners to make the movie.
Kostich said the goal is to keep the movie authentic on a human level while still giving it blockbuster scale.
Hollywood still wants game franchises
Studios have spent the past few years turning game series into movie and TV blockbusters, especially after several adaptations broke through with mainstream audiences.
- The Super Mario Galaxy Movie became 2026's highest-grossing film.
- Street Fighter is lined up for October 16.
- Uncharted was a major blockbuster with Tom Holland leading.
- Fallout and The Last of Us helped push game adaptations even further on TV.
Whether Call of Duty can continue that streak remains to be seen.
