Cyberpunk 2077 adds three PS5 Pro modes
Cyberpunk 2077 gets a free PS5 Pro update on April 8 with three graphics modes, sharper 4K visuals, and expanded ray tracing support.
Night City gets three PS5 Pro modes
Cyberpunk 2077 got its free PlayStation 5 Pro update on April 8, and CD Projekt Red is adding sharper 4K visuals, more ray tracing, and higher frame rate options.
The update is built around PSSR, Sony’s AI upscaling tech, plus a deeper ray tracing upgrade that adds BVH8 support for better lighting, shadows, and reflections across Night City.
Three ways to play
CD Projekt Red is giving PS5 Pro owners three graphics modes:
- Ray Tracing Pro: targets 40 fps on VRR displays, or 30 fps without VRR, with ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting all enabled.
- Performance: pushes frame rates up to 90 fps on VRR-supported displays while keeping image quality high.
- Ray Tracing: aims for 60 fps with a lighter set of ray tracing features for players who want a middle ground.
Big push for Sony's upscale tech
The update also shows how aggressively Sony is pushing PS5 Pro features into major third-party games. PSSR is doing a lot of the work here, helping CD Projekt Red chase 4K image quality while still offering faster performance modes.
This helps a game like Cyberpunk 2077, where dense city scenes, reflective surfaces, and heavy lighting effects can quickly hammer performance.
Extra boost from PS Plus
The timing is useful for Sony too. Cyberpunk 2077 is already in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, so Extra and Premium subscribers with a PS5 Pro can jump straight into the upgraded version at no extra cost.
For CD Projekt Red, it is another chance to keep extending the success of a game that has gone from troubled launch story to one of the biggest redemption arcs in modern gaming.
