Ecco the Dolphin returns with remasters and new game
Ecco the Dolphin is coming back in Ecco the Dolphin: Complete with remastered classics and a new sequel. A release date and platforms have not been announced.
Ecco revival goes bigger
Ecco the Dolphin is coming back in a new package called Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, and it includes remasters of the Genesis-era games plus a brand-new entry.
Developer A&R Atelier says the collection is being built with original members of the Ecco team and is meant to tie the series together in one modern release.
Old games and a new one
The collection will include all versions of the original Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, covering the games first released on Sega Genesis and later adapted for other Sega platforms.
The new game is being pitched as a modern continuation that connects the franchise's history into one unified experience.
- Remasters of earlier Ecco games
- A new contemporary Ecco title
- Built-in speedrunning support
- Achievements and leaderboards
- Meta quests spanning multiple games
- Custom courses with community sharing
Some gaps remain
One notable omission so far is Ecco: Defender of the Future, the Dreamcast game later ported to PlayStation 2. It was not listed as part of the package.
It is also unclear whether the younger-skewing spinoff Ecco Jr. will make the cut.
Long road back
This revival has been brewing for years. Series creator Ed Annunziata had previously teased a return for Ecco and has spent more than a decade trying to bring the franchise back to modern platforms.
That included the abandoned undersea project The Big Blue, which was once planned as a spiritual successor.
What is still missing
A&R Atelier has not announced release timing or platforms yet. That leaves the biggest questions unanswered, especially for players wondering whether Ecco's comeback is aimed at consoles, PC, or both.
