God of War rumor says series could shift to Asian myths

New mythologies may shape Kratos' return

The next God of War game is reportedly heading beyond the Norse saga, with unconfirmed details pointing to Chinese, Japanese, and possibly Mayan mythology.

The rumored project is said to be a prequel, though Sony has not announced it and key details could still change.

East Asia reportedly central

The strongest claim so far is that East-Asian mythology will play a major role in the next entry. Unconfirmed details say the game could pull from both Chinese and Japanese traditions, while Mayan mythology has also been mentioned.

If accurate, that would mark a major shift for the series after its long run through Greek and Norse settings.

Faye may take the lead

Another rumor says Faye, Kratos' wife, could be the main playable character. That lines up with earlier chatter from leaker NateTheHate, who said the next game would lean more heavily into action and move away from the structure of the Norse era.

Tyr is also reportedly involved, although it is not clear how big his role would be.

Some leaks sound much stranger

Other alleged details are harder to pin down. One claim says the player may travel with a companion described as a "gelatinous cube", while another says Merlin appears as a talking sword.

Announcement window may be close

Current speculation points to an official reveal later this month, but that remains unconfirmed.
