Quest 3 gets pricier

Meta is raising prices for its Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets starting April 19, adding as much as $100 to some models as VR hardware gets more expensive to build.

The company says higher costs for key parts, especially memory chips, are forcing the change. Meta also said refurbished Quest units will get the same price bump, while accessories will stay where they are.

New U.S. prices

  • Meta Quest 3S 128GB: $349.99, up from $299.99
  • Meta Quest 3S 256GB: $449.99, up from $399.99
  • Meta Quest 3 512GB: $599.99, up from $499.99

The Quest 3 first launched in October 2023. The cheaper Quest 3S followed in October 2024.

Hardware inflation keeps spreading

Meta explained the move as part of a wider squeeze across consumer electronics, with component costs rising globally and high-performance devices getting hit especially hard.

That matches what gamers have already been seeing across the market. Sony recently raised PS5 and PlayStation Portal prices again, while Xbox Series X/S consoles have also gotten multiple price increases this year.

Nintendo has already lifted prices on older Switch models, and the PC side has been dealing with the same pressure on parts, desktops, and gaming handhelds.

AI demand is part of it

The broader reason is a mix of component shortages, import costs, and surging demand tied to the AI boom, which has put extra pressure on memory and other core hardware parts.
