Roblox adding new protections for kids
Roblox will launch two age-based account types in June, with stricter game access and expanded parental controls for younger players.
Safer Roblox accounts coming
Roblox is rolling out two new age-based account types in June, along with broader parental controls aimed at younger players.
The changes split kids into Roblox Kids for ages 5 to 8 and Roblox Select for ages 9 to 15. Standard accounts kick in at 16.
Accounts change as kids age
Players will automatically move up as they get older, starting in Kids, then shifting to Select at 9, and finally to a regular account at 16.
Roblox says each account tier will come with age-tuned defaults for content access, communication, and parent controls.
- Roblox Kids: communication is disabled by default
- Roblox Select: access is limited to games with Minimal or Mild labels
- Both account types will have distinct visual indicators on the platform
Game access gets tighter
Roblox is also reviewing which games should be available to users under 16, with a filtering process tied to developer verification, deeper content checks, and added restrictions.
That suggests discovery on the platform is being reshaped, not just account settings.
Parents get more control
The new tools let parents manage content ratings, chat settings, screen time, and spending limits with more visibility into what their child is playing and who they interact with.
- Block individual games
- Manage direct chat
- Approve access to games outside a child’s default account settings
- Keep access to some controls until the child turns 16
Pressure around safety keeps building
The move comes as Roblox faces renewed scrutiny over child safety, including recent cases involving harmful contact on the platform.
