Sony turns Bloodborne into an R-rated animated film
Sony has confirmed an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie, with Jacksepticeye producing. Story details and a release window have not been announced.
Bloodborne heads to the big screen
Sony is adapting Bloodborne into an R-rated animated feature, bringing the cult-favorite PlayStation game back in a form fans probably did not expect.
Plot details are still under wraps, and Sony has not announced a release window yet.
What Sony confirmed
The new film is based on the 2015 PS4 game from FromSoftware, the studio behind Dark Souls and other Soulslike hits.
- Format: animated feature film
- Rating: R-rated
- Producer: Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin
- Status: plot and premiere timing still unknown
Why Bloodborne fits animation
Bloodborne built its reputation on brutal combat, grotesque monsters, and the decaying Gothic city of Yharnam. That mix makes animation a natural fit, especially if Sony wants to lean hard into the game’s horror and violence.
The original game follows a city-wide plague that transforms residents into terrifying beasts, with players uncovering a much stranger nightmare underneath.
Sony’s game adaptations are uneven
This adds another major PlayStation adaptation to Sony’s growing lineup, but the company’s track record has been mixed.
The Last of Us became a breakout hit on HBO, while projects like Uncharted and Twisted Metal had a much shakier response. A live-action God of War series is also in the works for Prime Video.
Elder Ring movie also in the works
Bloodborne is not the only FromSoftware world moving into film. A24 is also developing an Elden Ring adaptation with Alex Garland attached to direct.
For Bloodborne fans still waiting on a remake or PC port, Sony’s next trip back to Yharnam is a movie instead.
