Metal Gear Solid Movie Planned From 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' Duo
Sony is moving ahead with a Metal Gear Solid movie, with Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to direct.
Snake heads to the big screen
Metal Gear Solid is getting a movie at Sony, with Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein set to direct the adaptation for Columbia Pictures.
The move is part of a bigger first-look deal between Sony and the filmmaking duo, whose recent breakout came with Final Destination: Bloodlines.
Big win after Bloodlines
Sony is betting on the pair after Bloodlines turned into both a critical hit and a box office win. The 2025 movie pulled in $317 million worldwide on a budget of about $50 million.
That made it the highest-grossing entry in the long-running horror franchise, and it quickly raised the directors' profile across Hollywood.
Wonderlab becomes Sony base
Under the new deal, Lipovsky and Stein will develop projects through their new company Wonderlab. The setup covers all of Sony’s film labels.
- They will develop films for themselves to direct
- They will also produce original projects for other directors
- The focus is on commercial, character-driven genre movies
Metal Gear joins growing slate
The Metal Gear Solid film adds to a growing Sony relationship for the duo. They are already attached to direct an animated Venom movie for Sony Pictures Animation.
They are also developing the original sci-fi film The Earthling for Columbia.
Genre defining storytelling
Metal Gear Solid, created by Hideo Kojima, helped define cinematic storytelling in games with its stealth action, espionage twists, and sci-fi tone. If the project moves ahead as planned, it would be the first feature film based on the blockbuster franchise.
