Windrose tops 1 million sales just six days after launch
Windrose sold 1 million copies in six days, becoming a breakout survival hit as Kraken Express races to fix launch issues.
Fast pirate hit
Windrose reached a total of 1 million copies sold only 6 days into the game's release. This gives Kraken Express one of the best (if not the) top most rapid "breakout" releases this month. Windrose released on April 14th.
In addition to passing the milestone of selling over 1 million copies; Kraken Express stated that on April 19th Windrose hit 200,000 concurrent players.
Momentum kept building
It seems like Windrose did not slow down after its initial weekend, when it sold already 500,000 copies. Windrose doubled from the amount of copies sold in the first 48 hours.
Kraken Express posted the news about reaching 1 million copies sold on Steam and thanked all the players who have supported them during the launch of Windrose; but they acknowledged that Windrose has needed many fixes.
Launch issues still being fixed
The strong sales came alongside a busy week for patches. Kraken says it has been working through several early problems reported by players.
- Steam Cloud Saves issues
- IPS-related technical problems
- Experimental automatic save backups aimed at preventing data loss
The studio said it has been reading reviews, comments, videos, and streams while continuing to ship hotfixes.
Big win for Kraken Express
With a brand-new title to hit over 1 million copies sold within just one week of its launch along with 200,000 concurrent users at one point, it's safe to say that Windrose has entered the ranks of a very exclusive club.
The question now remains as to how long the buzz from the launch will be able to sustain player engagement, or if Kraken can provide enough support to solve all the tech issues and bring stability to the game before interest drops off.
